Coaching FAQs
Life coaching can help you with many different areas. In a nutshell, a life coach is an agent for change!
A life coach helps you explore where you are now, get clear on what you want & what needs to change, overcome obstacles, and take the steps you want to in a way that's balanced for you
Through thoughtful questions, honest conversations, and practical tools, coaching helps you understand your patterns, re-frame unhelpful beliefs, and take meaningful action towards the life you want to create
With clarity, comes the space to trust yourself again & make the choices you want to
Rather than giving advice or telling you what to do, I create a supportive, non-judgmental space where you can explore what's holding you back, uncover what you truly want, and figure out your new path forward
Coaching helps bridge that gap between where you are now and where you want to be, so you can create real, lasting change that feels aligned with who you are
Many of the women I work with look like they have everything together on the outside, but inside they feel stuck, overwhelmed, disconnected, or unsure of what's next. Coaching creates space for you to explore your stress, overwhelm, thoughts, patterns, & goals and to take the steps necessary for your future wellbeing
Think of it as having a dedicated thinking partner, someone in your corner who will support you, challenge you when needed, and help you stay focused on what matters most to you

While both coaching and therapy provide support and personal growth, they have different focuses. As a former therapist and certified life coach, I understand the value of both approaches.
Sometimes therapy is the right place to heal and process difficult experiences.
Sometimes coaching is the right place to gain clarity, build momentum, and create positive change.
In some cases, people benefit from both at different stages of their journey.
If you're unsure which approach would best support you, I'm happy to talk through your situation and help you figure out whether coaching is the right fit.
I've written a light-hearted blog about the difference between therapy & coaching using 'Chicken Licken' as an example. Read it here!
ou may laugh, cry, feel uncomfortable, be silent while you're thinking, feel excited about your progress. You could go through a whole range of emotions. The thing to remember is I am here to support you in the best way I can.
Coaching is not about judgment or pretending to 'have it all together'. It’s about creating meaningful, sustainable change in a grounded and supportive space.
Coaching with Laura Haywood is personalised. It is not a generic, one-size-fits-all process. It's about you, as an individual.
Specifically:
After the initial free call, we agree to work together
Generally, we then meet for one hour on zoom, every 2 weeks
To get the most out of each session, you bring a specific focus to work on that in the session
We explore that focus, and anything that's getting in your way from moving forward
We figure out what steps are right for you to be working on in between sessions
We book the next session
Coaching sessions are supportive, honest, and focused on you. Sessions may include:
Exploring what’s keeping you stuck
Identifying mindset patterns
Building self-awareness
Strengthening confidence
Creating practical changes
Helping you figure out what you truly want
Deciding on what steps are realistic and achievable for you to work on before the next session
I will say yes, in most cases. The truth is, coaching is about your future and your wellbeing. Many clients have said that the cost is uncomfortable at first, but they reached a point where staying the same was costing them more than making the change. You are worth the investment in your future.
Coaching can be incredibly valuable when you’re ready for change but don't know where to start & feel stuck in old patterns, overthinking, self-doubt, or emotional overwhelm
We regularly spend money on temporary things. Life coaching can be real change for your future!
The real value of coaching is in your transformation, awareness, accountability, lasting mindset shifts & choices that actually fit with who you want to be

You don’t need to be falling apart to benefit from coaching. Many people seek coaching because they:
Feel stuck or unfulfilled
Overthink constantly
Struggle with confidence
Feel emotionally overwhelmed
Want better boundaries
Feel lost in midlife
Have spent years putting themselves last
Know something needs to change but aren’t sure where to start
Often, clients simply reach a point where coping no longer feels like living. If you are nodding your head as you read, then maybe life coaching is for you! You can book a no-pressure, free call to explore what you need with Laura.
You can also read my blogs here, they cover a range of topics with real coaching tips & insight to help you get started on your path forward.
Everyone's coaching journey is different & everyone works at their own pace. It really depends upon what your personal aims are.
It depends on your aims, challenges, and the level of support you’re looking for
Some clients come for support around a specific issue, while others choose longer-term coaching to create deeper personal growth and lasting change
I work for a minimum of 3 months with clients, as lasting change takes time, reflection & practice
Coaching is not about quick fixes
Real change comes through awareness, honesty, consistency, and practice
The average time for change is 66 days (Lally et al, 2009)
Consistency is key for neuroplasticity (rewiring your brain)
The more you put into coaching, the more you will get out of it
Read my blog on how long change takes for more info.
Finding the right life coach is a bit like finding the right pair of shoes. Several may look suitable, but the 'right' one feels like a good fit.
Look for a coach whose approach, values, and style resonate with you
Read their website, explore their content, and pay attention to how you feel when you engage with their work
Do they seem to understand the challenges you're facing?
Do you feel comfortable with how they communicate?
Coaching is a specific skillset. It's important to check their training, qualifications, and experience.
The relationship is what's key. Research consistently shows that the quality of that relationship plays a significant role in the success of the coaching process. Listen to your gut!
Most coaches offer a initial free call . Use that opportunity to ask questions, discuss what you'd like support with, and get a sense of whether you feel heard, understood, and comfortable.
If you're considering working with me, an initial free call gives us both the opportunity to see whether we're a good fit before making any commitment.
